Why is my annual tap water statement so high?
Of course, a high annual tap water statement is an unpleasant surprise. Take a look at the possible reasons for a high annual tap water statement.
1. You have consumed more water than expected
There can be several reasons for higher water consumption:
- You live with more people than last year.
- You are home more often.
- You had a leak.
Are you wondering if you use more or less water than average? Then have a look at the average water consumption. You can also read tips here on how to save water.
2. Your meter reading is an estimate
Have you not submitted your meter reading? In that case, we will make an estimate of your usage over the past year. Our estimate may be higher than the usage that you have paid for. That is why you should always submit your meter reading. Then you will never pay too much!
3. You are a new client
Have you only recently started getting your drinking water from Waternet? Then we do not know exactly what your consumption is yet. You then pay based on the number of people in your household. For example, do you live with 2 people? Then we assume a usage of 100 m³ per year (1 m³ = 1,000 litres of water). If your actual consumption is higher, you will then end up paying more on the annual tap water statement.
Good to know: after the annual tap water statement, you will automatically receive a new monthly instalment amount. This amount is more in line with your actual usage. You can also have your monthly instalment amount adjusted.
4.You have not submitted your meter reading for a long time
Have you not submitted your meter reading for several years? Then we do not know how much water you really use. In that case, we will make an estimate. Once you submit your meter reading again, your annual tap water statement may suddenly be higher. This is because your monthly instalment amount was actually too low.
In other words, you use more water than you pay for. Your annual tap water statement will therefore be higher. After you have submitted your meter reading, you will then only pay for your actual consumption.
Check it yourself
Still in doubt? You can check whether the meter reading on your annual tap water statement is correct. Compare today's meter reading with the one on your annual tap water statement:
- Is today's reading slightly higher? That is probably right. You have, of course, consumed water since submitting your meter reading.
- Is today's reading considerably higher? Then something may be wrong. Check your water meter.
- Is the reading lower? Then we have made an incorrect estimate. Or perhaps you have submitted the wrong meter reading. Please submit the correct meter reading next year.
New monthly instalment amount
Good to know: with the annual tap water statement, you automatically receive a new monthly instalment amount. This new amount takes into account your consumption over the past year. That's convenient, because it means you will pay the right amount for your drinking water. And you probably will not have to pay extra on your next annual tap water statement.
