Catch up water authority tax assessment
You may receive water authority tax assessments for several tax years this year. Read on to find out what this means for you.
We are sending out the water authority tax assessments later than usual. This is due to IT problems. Because we are going to catch up on the backlog, you may receive assessments for several years this year. On this page you can read more about our approach and find out what this might mean for you.
In 2021 we upgraded our IT infrastructure for water authority tax. This caused a delay in sending out the assessments. That is why you will receive the water tax assessment later than usual. We understand this can be quite inconvenient for you and apologise in advance.
What does this mean for you?
As we clear our backlog, you may receive multi-year assessments this year.
Pay in instalments
Are you not yet paying in instalments but would like to? Then go to My Waternet and log in for taxes with your DigiD. This is where you can arrange to pay your assessment in up to 8 instalments by Direct Debit from your bank account.
Remission
Are you on a low income? Then you may be eligible for a tax remission. In that case, you do not have to pay the water authority tax assessment. You can read more about this on our remission page. You can also directly apply for a remission. Have you already made a payment? Then you can still apply for a remission. This can be done up until 3 months after your last payment.
Are you unable to pay?
If you cannot pay your water authority tax assessment and you did not qualify for remission, you can request a payment plan. You can then pay the amount in up to 12 instalments by direct debit.
What steps are we taking now?
December 2024: Water authority tax debited twice
A number of people have had an amount for the water authority tax debited twice from their bank account. The first amount was debited on 6 December, the second amount was around 11 December. The amount that was debited twice has the same description.
November 2024: Error in direct debits
In November 2024, the direct debit of 1 or more instalments for a group of residents did not go well.
August 2024: Assessment 2024
In August 2024, we began sending the assessments for the 2024 tax year.
June 2024: Payments deducted prematurely
On 28 June, we debited an amount on the accounts of 1.514 residents. This should not have happened. These residents had in fact objected to an assessment or requested a tax remission. Normally, the direct debit is then stopped until a decision is made.
April 2024: Letters to old address
We have recently made a mistake: we have sent letters to previous addresses from some residents. This concerns water authority tax assessments and payment reminders.
February 2024: Assessment 2023
We have started sending the assessments for the 2023 tax year.
January 2024: Assessment 2022
Most of the assessments for the tax year 2022 have been sent.
December 2023: Assessment 2021
The assessments for the 2021 tax year have been sent.
