I do not have a water meter. How is my tap water bill determined?

If you do not have a water meter, we estimate your water consumption. Your tap water bill is based on the number of units of your home. For example, your kitchen counts as one unit.

How is the number of units determined?

The following spaces count as 1 unit:

  • - each room larger than 6 m²
  • - kitchen
  • - bath
  • - garage
  • - garden larger than 65 m²

The following space counts as 2 units:

  • - Each room larger than 30 m²

Examples of how to determine the number of units in your home

You live in an apartment with 3 rooms, a kitchen and a bath. Each room is larger than 6 m². Your home consists of the following units:

  • - 3 rooms which are larger than 6 m²: 3 units
  • - 1 kitchen: 1 unit
  • - 1 bath: 1 unit

Where can I view my water usage?

Your water usage ('waterverbruik') is stated on your annual statement. The annual statement can be found at my tap water bills.

Frequently asked question about paying

On which date are direct debit payments taken from my bank account?

The direct debit payment of your tap water is around 2 weeks after the date stated on your tap water bill. Do you pay via direct debit? You can find your next direct debit payment date on your account summary. 2 weeks after the date stated on your bill we will collect the amount from your bank account.

How can I change my instalment amount for tap water?

Does your home have a water meter?  You can increase or decrease the amount of your advance payment on My Waternet.

When is this not possible?

  • - If your home does not have a water meter
    You can only change your monthly or quarterly amount if your home has a water meter. If your home does not have a water meter, you will pay a fixed amount for the number of units in your home.
  • - If you will receive your annual bill within 3 months.
    Every year, we ask you to submit your meter reading. Then we can exactly see how much water you have used. We automatically adjust your instalment amount based on your actual water use. You cannot change your monthly or quarterly payment if you have not yet received your annual statement. Because if we do not know the amount of your new instalment payment, you cannot change it.

  • - If there is more than 1 address registered to your name
  • - If you do not have an active contract with us

How to arrange payment through direct debit?

You can pay for your tap water through direct debit in 2 ways.

In which different ways can I pay my bill?

  • 1. Direct Debit
    You can pay for your tap water through direct debit in 2 ways per month or per 3 months. We deduct the amount automatically from your bank account.

  • 2. iDEAL
    Every month or every 3 months you receive your tap water bill. You can can pay quickly and securely using iDEAL.

  • 3. Transfer money
    You can also transfer the amount manually. Make sure you use the correct bank account number, as Waternet has separate accounts for water authority tax and tap water.
